Brake Cooling - DIY

The following list the parts and procedures to install brake cooling onto a BMW M coupe.

Required Parts

  • 11 ft of high temp cooling hose from Racer Part Wholesale (800-397-7815), part # THE-SS250 for $59.99
  • 100 - cable ties 14" or longer in length

Procedure

  1. Remove inner fender lining to gain access to brake scoop.
  2. Remove brake scoop.
  3. Cut 2-1/2" hole in the scoop on the inner wall side.
  4. Push brake cooling hose through hole and pull hose forward and attach with two cable ties via slots that need to be cut into scoop onto the inner wall side of scoop.
  5. Reinstall scoop.
  6. Route hose along sway bar and up the strut, attach loosely.
  7. Reinstall fender lining and in doing so you will see that the inner most part on the liner by the sway bar will need to be cut back some to make room for the hose.
  8. How strongly attach the hose to the sway bar and up the strut and bend the hose back down the front of the strut so the hose makes contact with the backing plate.
  9. Cut hose to fit so it is presses firmly to the backing plate.
  10. Cut a hole in the backing plate as close to the strut and center of the hub but not so big that the hose falls through.
  11. Continue attaching hose with cable ties, about one every 1-1/2" or so.
  12. Repeat procedures 1-11 on other side
  13. Test drive, check for rubbing, etc...
